Many people see Barack Obama as a symbol of hope and promise, that
Barack has become more than just a man but has transcended the flesh
and essentially become a walking-- even floating--
idea.
Barack even said so himself, that he sees himself as a symbol, an icon,
a blank slate upon which the whole world projects its ideas of what is
good in the world. Many see in Barack sunny days filled with soft,
fragrant flower petals; bright shining stars and green, fresh pastures
full of sweet-smelling grass. Oh Barack Obama, our Hawaiian Tiki God!
Green pastures. Green energy. Does all of this equal green skin upon the face of Al Gore? Or should I call him FRANKENGORE?
Hahahahaa. I was watching Al Gore's endorsement of Barack Obama last
June and got the idea that all of the people and politicians who keep
talking about ways to free ourselves from foreign oil have fully
neglected the advantages of GAY POWER!! All of these images
and fantasies of "fresh, clean energy" and world peace makes me think
of the "Gay Pride Rainbow" with all of its nice, soft colors and how
these colors correspond to the colors of the ingredients of a taco. Red
tomatoes. Green lettuce. Spicy orange hot sauce. All of these fine
flavors and robust hues are present in the midst of honest,
hard-working American gay men. In this painting I have them holding
hands, standing there in their underwear as their mutual love for one
another and American values energizes their underwear. It sends volts
of electricity through their hands and blood and bodies and empowers
the world.
Al Frankengore stands there embracing our savior and
Hawaiian Tiki God, Barack Obama. Both men have underwear atop their
heads as a symbol of promise for alternative energy solutions. The gay
love ignites the tacos; it energizes the nation's underwear. It creates
a beautiful multi-national, transglobal rainbow that hovers above our
heads. All of us men kiss one another. We hug one another despite those
in the world who would divide us. We can and will create the energy
within ourselves to turn the propellers of metaphorical wind turbines,
if it only serves to symbolize the stirrings of our souls. It's just
that I feel the greatest, sweetest sorts of energy are
to be found within our own bodies, in our internal rustlings and an
unabashed love for our fellow man. This idea is seen most profoundly in
the important voting demographic of the gay community. I wanted to make
them a part of my "Obama Taco Underwear" painting series and this is
what I came up with.
